Would you like to have a say in the running of our Shire and make a positive contribution to your community? If so, have you ever considered running for Council? Being a councillor can be very rewarding as it allows you to represent your community and participate in decision making that impacts our local way of life.

The current term of office for Local Government Councillors in NSW is coming to an end with elections due on Saturday, 14 September 2024.

The election will be run by the NSW Electoral Commission who will start advertising for candidates to enrol from 22 July 2024. Enrolments will be accepted from 5 to 14 August 2024.

To help interested people decide if they wish to nominate for election, information sessions will be held in our towns and villages during May. This will give all residents the opportunity to attend a presentation about what being a councillor involves. Current councillors and executive staff will also be on hand to talk to prospective candidates and answer any questions they have.

The General Manager of Lachlan Shire, Greg Tory, said “I encourage residents to start thinking about representing the community as a councillor now. I would like to see anyone who is considering running, no matter how unsure they are, at an information session so they can make an informed decision.”

The Lachlan Shire Council is made up of ten councillors, two from each of the five wards. “I hope to receive nominations from a wide cross section of the community in each ward to allow residents the opportunity to choose the best candidates to represent their views on Council” Mr Tory concluded.

Dates for information sessions will be advertised in the media, on Council’s website and Facebook page from late April.
