LACHLAN SHIRE COUNCIL ADOPTS BUDGET FOCUSED ON SERVICES, INFRASTRUCTURE AND COMMUNITY PRIORITIES

Lachlan Shire Council’s annual budget provides $58 million to deliver operational and capital works across the shire. The budget is strongly focused on maintaining essential services, investing in local infrastructure and prioritises supporting communities.

The budget is supported by $24.9 million in Commonwealth and NSW State Government grants and includes $24.5 million for capital improvements across Lachlan Shire.

Council’s investment program includes $9 million in grant-funded works to maintain and improve roads throughout the shire, helping to strengthen local transport connections and support residents, businesses, freight operators and visitors.

Mayor John Medcalf said the budget reflects Council’s commitment to delivering practical outcomes for the community while planning responsibly for the future.

“This budget invests in the services, facilities and infrastructure our communities rely on every day, while continuing to pursue grant funding opportunities that help us deliver more for Lachlan Shire,” Mayor Medcalf said.

Beyond roads and infrastructure, the budget invests in the services, community spaces and local opportunities that support quality of life across Lachlan Shire. This consists of $740,000 for Home and Community Care services, helping residents access support close to home, while $1.3 million will strengthen visitor experience initiatives that encourage people to explore and spend time in the shire.

Council has also set aside $260,000 for community grants and events, including shire-wide ANZAC Day and Australia Day commemorations, alongside $2.4 million for sporting grounds, swimming pools and recreational facilities. A further $800,000 will progress the McInnes Street Lake Cargelligo land development, supporting future growth and housing opportunities.

General Manager Ian Greenham said the budget provides a balanced approach to service delivery, asset renewal and community investment. “Council is continuing to take a disciplined approach to financial management while delivering projects and services that support liveability, access and opportunity across the shire,” Mr Greenham said.

Council will continue to keep the community informed as projects progress throughout the financial year.
