VEGETATION OVERGROWTH
Published on 31 October 2024
Residents are reminded that they are responsible for the maintenance of their yards and any grasses, weeds, plants or other vegetation growth within their property.
We are coming into warmer weather and if vegetation is allowed to grow out of control it will dry off and create a fire hazard. Health risks associated with overgrown vegetation include creating a habitat to harbour snakes or vermin and for mosquitos to breed.
If vegetation overgrowth is not attended to, a Notice/Order may be served on the owner or occupier of the land. The Notice/Order will require the owner or occupier to clear and remove the vegetation to a specified standard.
Council’s Environmental and Waste Coordinator, Rowan Bentick, said “Seeing the grasses and plants thriving within the townships of Lachlan Shire is a welcomed sight and a reflection of a favourable season. However, vegetation needs to be managed and controlled to ensure a healthy and safe environment. Summer is only a few months away and now is the time to start reducing the fuel load in yards to minimise the threat of fire” he concluded.
