Lachlan Shire Council appreciates the efforts of community members in managing assets such as halls, showgrounds and sporting complexes.
What is a Section 355 Committee
Council has created Section 355 Committees in every town or village in the Lachlan Shire Council to assist council in the management of community facilities or make recommendations to Council.
Section 355 Committees are made up of seven (7) community volunteers plus two members who are elected members of the Council.
There are two types of s355 Committees. Firstly, a S355 committees may manage community facilities on behalf of the Council. They aim to maximise the use of the facilities and are responsible for day-to-day management, including organising maintenance and minor repairs.
Secondly there are s355 committees which have also been established to advise Council on the needs for future enhancement, expansion or upgrade of the facilities.
Section 355 is the section of the Local Government Act (1993) that allows Council to delegate some of its functions to a Committee of Council.
How Many Section 355 Committees Are There?
At present Council has 21 Section 355 Community Committees.

How Do I Become A Member of A Community Committee?
Lachlan Shire Council encourages community participation in a number of its functions. One way in which citizens can become involved is by becoming a member or volunteer of a community committee.
Members of the public are encouraged to nominate for membership to a Section 355. Membership is limited to seven (7) members per committee. However you can still participate in working bees and other committee activities as a volunteer.
Council will advise for nominations as vacancies become available. Nomination forms are to be forwarded to Council for approval.
Do Councillors Or Council Staff Attend Committee Meetings?
Each Committee has two elected Councillor representatives that attends each meeting.
Council staff may attend at their discretion, to enable them to gauge the areas of concern of the community. They can assist in prioritising any proposals for improvement, growth and development plans of the area of responsibility of the Community Committee.
