Lake Cargelligo Working Draught Horse Museum
In the current days of laser leveling and mechanised harvesters, the horse-drawn plough is virtually relegated to a curiosity. But in Lake Cargelligo, the role of the Australian draught horse in the early Australian wheat industries continues.
Steve and Jan Johnson use the horses to work their fields. Applying mainly voice control, Steve and his team can plough a paddock with pinpoint accuracy, harvest, run a chaff cutter and a mill grinder. They also demonstrate log snigging and wagon loading by using a horse-operated bag kicker.
See how things used to be done on the land in years past with Jan and Steve Johnson's Working Draught Horse Museum located at McInnes Street, Lake Cargelligo. Bookings are essential, so please phone in advance to ensure the horses are ready for your visit
