Buckle Up Every Time

Last modified: November 11, 2009 - 8:48 PM

Between February 2003 and June 2003 the Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer conducted a seat belt safety program called Buckle Up Every Time.

The program was based on a similar program which was conducted by Moree Plains and Yallaroi Shire Councils in 2001. It was a joint program between Moree Plains, Yallaroi, Narromine, Gilgandra, Parkes, Forbes and Lachlan Shire Councils. The objective of the program was to increase the seat belt wearing rate by 5% or reach the target rate of 98%. Strategies which were implemented include; regular seat belt observational surveys, advertising the results of the results of the surveys, media coverage, a Valentines Day competition, banners, installation of buckle up car park signs, holding free Safety Seat checks days, a colouring competition in the local paper and Police enforcement. The wearing rate achieved at the end of the program was 98.3%. A final report of the program and it's activities is available to download at the bottom of this page.
