SLOW DOWN IN TOWN!
SLOW DOWN IN TOWN! was the first project conducted by the Road Safety and Injury Prevention Officer in 2002.
The project was conducted between September 2002 - February 2003 and had three objectives;
1. to involve the community
2. to reduce speeds on the targeted streets
3. to increase awareness of the dangers and consequences of speeding.
Project strategies include; data collection, a public launch, use of speed monitor trailers, give aways on radio, media coverage, a dress up your wheelie bin competition, police enforcement and advertising. The results of the project are mixed. In some streets speeds did decrease in others they increased slightly. A copy of the project's final report is available to download at the bottom of this page, this outlines the results of the project.
