Interim Local Environment Plan
Lachlan Shire Council, with the assistance of the NSW Department of Planning, has commissioned a Primary Production and Resource Strategy to apply to the whole of Lachlan local government area. The draft strategy has been prepared by Zenith Town Planning and is on exhibition for community comment.
The aims of the draft strategy are to identify:
- key natural and economic resources to protect and manage
- the economic value of these activities and potential opportunities for expansion
- relevant environmental, social and infrastructure factors
- the location and amount of land required for rural living, and
- planning legislation and government policy that relates to primary production and the management of natural resources
The draft strategy addresses ways in which agricultural, mining and forestry industries can be protected and supported by land use planning mechanisms. It identifies ways to protect valuable natural resources and important environmental attributes of Lachlan Shire. Taking into account the need to protect primary industries and environmental factors as well as the capacity to provide necessary services, the draft strategy also identifies areas that are suitable for rural lifestyle subdivision.
An amendment to the local planning scheme will be carried out following adoption of the strategy by Council and endorsement by the Department of Planning. The amendment will implement the findings of the strategy and will enact recent initiatives by the NSW Government reforms to the planning system.
The draft strategy and a range of ‘fact sheets’ are on exhibition for public comment between 12th November 2008 and 12th December 2008. Copies of the draft strategy are on display at Council’s administration centre in Condobolin, at Condobolin public library and at the Council Library in Lake Cargelligo and at the Tottenham Post Office. Copies will also be available for overnight loan. The draft strategy is also available on Council’s website www.lachlan.nsw.gov.au and can be obtained from Council on CD. Submissions are invited up to close of business on 12th December 2008.
To assist interested persons to gain an understanding of the details and findings of the strategy, ‘open days’ will be held in Lake Cargelligo, Condobolin and Tottenham.
At these ‘open days’ the consultancy firm Zenith Town Planning and Council planning staff will be available to offer information about the draft strategy and the process to amend the local planning scheme.
Open days are to be held as follows:
- Wednesday 19th November between 3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. at Lake Cargelligo - Lake Cargelligo Memorial Hall, Foster Street, Lake Cargelligo
- Thursday 20th November between 2.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. at Condobolin – Lachlan Shire Council Chambers (Committee Room), Molong Street, Condobolin and
- Thursday 20th November between 10.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. – Tottenham Community Hall, Bulbodney Street, Tottenham.
