TOWN PLANNING Lachlan Shire Council's Strategic Planning Section is responsible for the preparation of plans and policies concerning the regulation of land use and development within Lachlan Shire. Council's Local Environmental Plan (LEP) defines its planning policy and various Development Control Plans (DCPs), both of which are accessible on this web site and at Council's offices in Condobolin. Policies are formulated according to existing legislation, for example the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, and are updated on a regular basis to ensure that the implementation of the legislation is consistent with community expectations. The LEP enables development within the Shire to proceed in an orderly and logical manner, and provides protection of important aspects of the natural and built environment. In addition to the LEP, Development Control Plans (DCPs) provide details of any new legislation that may relate to aspects such as building design standards etc. Council is currently undertaking investigations into Rural Residential land developments, land use areas, and a review of the LEP in general. Further advice may be obtained by contacting Council's Environmental Services and Planning Department on (02) 6895 1950.
