Details of Dog Registrations
Identification required from 12 weeks of age and before sale
(1) A companion animal must be identified as required by the regulations from the time the animal is 12 weeks old.(2) A companion animal must not be sold unless it has been identified as required by the regulations (even if it is less than 12 weeks old when it is sold).(3) The owner of an animal is guilty of an offence if it is not identified in accordance with subsection
(4) In the case of cats, "identification" can mean microchip OR tag on collar with owner's name and address
Penalties for non compliance range from $550 to $2200.
Fees for dogs under 10 years are:-
Non desexed dog $150
Desexed dog $40
Desexed dog (pensioner) $15
Recognised breeder $40 and
Assistance Animal - Free *
Proof of the dog's age may be ascertained in any of the following ways:-
1. Dog's d.o.b. on an original Dog Act receipt
2. A signed certificate/letter from a Vet
3. A statutory declaration by the owner of the dog
* Before a dog can be lifetime registered, it must be microchipped by a Vet. Then the microchip documents and proof of desexing (if applicable) must be taken to the Council office.
A Pensioner Card must be produced in order to receive the pensioner rate for registration.
