About the Shire
This part of our web site will provide information for residents and tourists alike. Lachlan Shire Council is one of the largest Shires in New South Wales, having an area of over 15,000 sqare kilometres. The current population of the Shire is around 7188 and the centre of administration is based at Condobolin. Towns and villages included in the Shire are Tottenham,Lake Cargelligo, Tullibigeal, Albert, Burcher and Fifield. Lachlan Shire is responsible for the maintenence of many kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads,(in fact we have the longest length of roads of any Shire in the State). The Shire is also responsible for parks and gardens, cemeteries, garbage tips and garbage collections, dog registrations, libraries and public halls. The above list represents the typical functions of any Shire. In recent years the Shire has become directly or indirectly involved in provision of medical services, employment and development issues, tourism and regional development initiatives.
